Sea Pidgeon is best known for his titanic efforts in the Champion Hurdle. He ran in the race for five years in a row between 1977 and 1981. In 1977 he came fourth behind Night Nurse and then in the following two years suffered two narrow defeats at the hands of Monksfield after being neck and neck at the last. He proceeded to put matters straight in the following two years when he won the race on both occasions. His Champion Hurdle victories were backed up not just by some further notable victories over hurdles, but some major triumphs on the level as well. These included capturing the 1979 under a massive 10st burden.
