As a rider Fulke's biggest success was winning the Grand National in 1936. His riding career was cut short when he fractured his skull for the second time in 1938. After recovering he was to become possibly the best jumps trainer ever seen. His record speaks for itself. By the time he retired he had reeled in no less than four Gold Cups, one Grand National and two Champion Hurdles. This list is backed up by five victories in the King George VI Chase, seven in the Whitbread Gold Cup and seven in the Hennessy Gold Cup. A striking record indeed. Fulke was also leading trainer five times.
